8 things you need to know before you decide to go Canyoneering at Badian, Cebu

Uncategorized

Canyoneering is an activity every laagan person should experience. This is an activity that is perfect for all you adventure junkies out there.

These are the things that you should know to help you decide if this activity is something that you could enjoy or help you not go outside of the house ever again.

  1. Look for buddies who are game for anything. There is a lot of walking, swimming, jumping off cliffs, climbing, and conquering of fear off heights and the unknown involved in this activity. Find friends who are not afraid to try something new and earn a couple of bruises.. or two.DCIM100GOPROGOPR0982.luckily i had friends who even pushed me to try this one out! they were amazing. TIP! this is a great activity for you lovers out there. Romantic walks (and climbs, and dives, and swims) with the one you love? Yup! off the bucketlist!
  2. Don’t wear bikinis, shorts, or anything skimpy. Trust me. It’s not a good idea. Canyoneering doesn’t just involve the waters, it also involves letting your skin touch mud, rocks, leaves, and maybe… insects. Wear leggings, rashguard, swimming clothes that are both friendly to the water and protective for your skin.
  3. Everything is going to be wet. From your hair down to your shoes. If you don’t have shoes that are designed for the water, there are some shops in Badian that offer rentals. Plus your guides will take care of that actually. All you have to do is to pay your guides and they will take care of the rest. Your phones, wallet, and other valuable things, you can either leave them at your guide’s place or you can bring it with you. Your guides will bring waterproof bags for you. If you have one, the better. Furthermore, if you don’t have a Gopro or any waterproof camera, the guides will provide one. Don’t worry, they might have thought about everything before you go to the actual spot. That is why it is important for you guys to know if your guides are experienced enough to handle the activity. :)DCIM100GOPROGOPR1171.4. Book guides ahead of time. Everyone is dying to join the bandwagon. Tourists from around the globe would go to Alegria/Badian just to experience this. With just a limited number of trained guides in the area, they are bound to be fully booked most of the time. So you book a schedule first, before you go there. With that being said, this activity is not designed for those who are too spontaneous and unpredictable (sorry.) DCIM100GOPROGOPR0991.5. Canyoneering is safe for those who are concerned with their skin tone. Trust me. I don’t like being under the sun at all. After the activity, my skin color stayed fair. I only put on GT carrot lotion to both my face and body and wore rashguard and leggings. The activity doesn’t really involve a lot of sun. So, you’re safe 😉 (I used an umbrella because our bus stopped a bit far from our guide’s house. hehe!)DCIM100GOPROGOPR0989.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1000.DCIM100GOPROGOPR0996.DCIM100GOPROGOPR0993.DCIM100GOPROGOPR0992.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1020.
  4. There are carenderias along the highway if you get hungry before the activity. Just ask the guides where to eat. Make sure you eat a lot (but not too much)! The activity is physically demanding and requires a lot of hours to fulfill. Imagine walking between 2 municipalities (Alegria to Badian) topped off with swimming, diving, and etc.!DCIM100GOPROGOPR0981.5. If you get hungry during the activity, there are barbeque stalls in the middle of the river. Yup you read it right. There are stalls there but what they are selling are a bit pricey. Well, it is understandable. It’s not easy transferring those goods from land to the middle of nowhere! But if you’re kuripot, you can always bring energy bars with you just to help you end the journey.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1230.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1231.6. There are gonna be times when you are required to jump. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to swim. Guides are there to tell you what and what not to do. They got yo back. Plus everyone is required to wear life jackets, whether you’re a swimming athlete or not.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1029.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1032.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1193.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1280.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1235.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1073.7. At the end of the journey, you get to enjoy the good food and Kawasan Falls. Food is being served by the people taking care of the business in Kawasan Falls. The ones who are going to take care of the food and payment will be your guides, unless your guides told you that it’s not part of the package. But usually, food after the adventure is part of it. TIP! always ask the details of the package before paying!DCIM100GOPROGOPR1289.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1288.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1286.8. Most importantly, smile and enjoy the adventure! It’s not everyday you get to overcome something scary in your life. This activity is good for those who want to try something different and out-of-this-world, something that is different from the big city life. This is also a good time to bond with your family, friends, and loved ones.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1183.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1180.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1019.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1165.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1011.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1247.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1044.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1276.I want you all to know that Canyoneering is really not for the faint-hearted. You have to give up a lot of sweat, money, time, and effort just to experience something this amazing. It is for those who are willing to undergo hell just to see heaven in the end. I swear, it’s worth it.
