8 things you need to know before you decide to go Canyoneering at Badian, Cebu

Canyoneering is an activity every laagan person should experience. This is an activity that is perfect for all you adventure junkies out there.

These are the things that you should know to help you decide if this activity is something that you could enjoy or help you not go outside of the house ever again.

  1. Look for buddies who are game for anything. There is a lot of walking, swimming, jumping off cliffs, climbing, and conquering of fear off heights and the unknown involved in this activity. Find friends who are not afraid to try something new and earn a couple of bruises.. or two.DCIM100GOPROGOPR0982.luckily i had friends who even pushed me to try this one out! they were amazing. TIP! this is a great activity for you lovers out there. Romantic walks (and climbs, and dives, and swims) with the one you love? Yup! off the bucketlist!
  2. Don’t wear bikinis, shorts, or anything skimpy. Trust me. It’s not a good idea. Canyoneering doesn’t just involve the waters, it also involves letting your skin touch mud, rocks, leaves, and maybe… insects. Wear leggings, rashguard, swimming clothes that are both friendly to the water and protective for your skin.
  3. Everything is going to be wet. From your hair down to your shoes. If you don’t have shoes that are designed for the water, there are some shops in Badian that offer rentals. Plus your guides will take care of that actually. All you have to do is to pay your guides and they will take care of the rest. Your phones, wallet, and other valuable things, you can either leave them at your guide’s place or you can bring it with you. Your guides will bring waterproof bags for you. If you have one, the better. Furthermore, if you don’t have a Gopro or any waterproof camera, the guides will provide one. Don’t worry, they might have thought about everything before you go to the actual spot. That is why it is important for you guys to know if your guides are experienced enough to handle the activity. 🙂DCIM100GOPROGOPR1171.4. Book guides ahead of time. Everyone is dying to join the bandwagon. Tourists from around the globe would go to Alegria/Badian just to experience this. With just a limited number of trained guides in the area, they are bound to be fully booked most of the time. So you book a schedule first, before you go there. With that being said, this activity is not designed for those who are too spontaneous and unpredictable (sorry.) DCIM100GOPROGOPR0991.5. Canyoneering is safe for those who are concerned with their skin tone. Trust me. I don’t like being under the sun at all. After the activity, my skin color stayed fair. I only put on GT carrot lotion to both my face and body and wore rashguard and leggings. The activity doesn’t really involve a lot of sun. So, you’re safe 😉 (I used an umbrella because our bus stopped a bit far from our guide’s house. hehe!)DCIM100GOPROGOPR0989.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1000.DCIM100GOPROGOPR0996.DCIM100GOPROGOPR0993.DCIM100GOPROGOPR0992.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1020.
  4. There are carenderias along the highway if you get hungry before the activity. Just ask the guides where to eat. Make sure you eat a lot (but not too much)! The activity is physically demanding and requires a lot of hours to fulfill. Imagine walking between 2 municipalities (Alegria to Badian) topped off with swimming, diving, and etc.!DCIM100GOPROGOPR0981.5. If you get hungry during the activity, there are barbeque stalls in the middle of the river. Yup you read it right. There are stalls there but what they are selling are a bit pricey. Well, it is understandable. It’s not easy transferring those goods from land to the middle of nowhere! But if you’re kuripot, you can always bring energy bars with you just to help you end the journey.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1230.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1231.6. There are gonna be times when you are required to jump. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to swim. Guides are there to tell you what and what not to do. They got yo back. Plus everyone is required to wear life jackets, whether you’re a swimming athlete or not.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1029.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1032.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1193.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1280.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1235.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1073.7. At the end of the journey, you get to enjoy the good food and Kawasan Falls. Food is being served by the people taking care of the business in Kawasan Falls. The ones who are going to take care of the food and payment will be your guides, unless your guides told you that it’s not part of the package. But usually, food after the adventure is part of it. TIP! always ask the details of the package before paying!DCIM100GOPROGOPR1289.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1288.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1286.8. Most importantly, smile and enjoy the adventure! It’s not everyday you get to overcome something scary in your life. This activity is good for those who want to try something different and out-of-this-world, something that is different from the big city life. This is also a good time to bond with your family, friends, and loved ones.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1183.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1180.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1019.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1165.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1011.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1247.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1044.DCIM100GOPROGOPR1276.I want you all to know that Canyoneering is really not for the faint-hearted. You have to give up a lot of sweat, money, time, and effort just to experience something this amazing. It is for those who are willing to undergo hell just to see heaven in the end. I swear, it’s worth it.

Gold will never go old

Gold has only been my recent favorite color since 4th year college. I used to love pink for the last 18 years of my life. I then shifted to red, then eventually to gold. I decided to love gold because as i grew older, i feel that my fashion sense is slowly maturing, and pink does not fit the criteria anymore. My fashion sense is currently focusing on elegance, aside from my usual prim and proper style. Gold is a bit tricky in a sense, because you have to combine it with pieces that are elegant. It’s a style that is a bit difficult to flaunt, but easy to keep up with. Although i have to add, gold alone does not bring the elegance in the outfit, the one wearing the outfit is the one bringing the “umph” in everything she wears. Remember, we are queens and princesses. Act like it 😉

Dress was designed by my mom.

I am a fan of Vanessa Hudgens. Yesterday’s ensemble embodied her usual style. This bohemian style is just something i always carry through the years. Plus my hair fits the genre (thank you, grandma, for the beautiful genes!) hehe!

If you want to achieve such look, start by browsing through the web using the keywords, “hippie”, “bohemian”, or “coachella”. So that you can have the least bit of idea of how this style is suppose to look like. I encourage you to add a little bit of “you” in everything that you wear so that you don’t have to lose yourself in the middle of recreating looks. What i did with mine is i added a handbag  and  i chose  a dress with Bohemian  prints but still kinda represents my usual style. I am inclined to wearing prim and proper clothes and wearing something Bohemian is relatively opposite to my usual. Furthermore, great shoes take you to great places. That is why boots, in my opinion, are one of the most basic fashion must-haves any girl should own. It’s comfortable and can go with almost anything-you just have to be creative.

What i am wearing:

Dress: it’s an heirloom (i got it from my momma!)

Boots: Payless Shoesource

Handbag: Prada

The Stars

I want you to see the same stars as i do.

The stars that made me believe in love again.

The stars that twinkle endlessly in the dark sky, no matter how clear or cloudy it may seem.

The stars that made me see you, even when you felt that you were invisible.

The stars that made us meet in the most unexpected time.

The stars that made our eyes sparkle with joy.

The stars that can give you all the reason to hope that things would get better tomorrow.

The stars that can make you believe how genuine your iridescence is.

The stars that can make you see how beautiful you are.

The stars that can make you feel all the good emotions in the world and can make all the bad ones go away.

The stars that can eradicate all the pain brought by my unfavorable past.

The stars that can make you believe all the truths i have said.

The stars that can make you believe in love again.

The stars that can make you see me again.

Lay it all back

Ah, traveling. Something that has been embedded in my blood since 1995. The best way to travel with style is to travel with comfort. Fashion is mostly about how you carry yourself. If you are uncomfortable with what you’re wearing, you can’t justify the outfit well and we don’t want that. *wink* Iligan city to Surigao del sur is one hell of a roadtrip. 11 hours of sitting with occasional trips to the bathroom. Ugh. I chose to wear something laidback for the trip. What better way to express laidback fashion than a plaid button-down shirt, boyfriend jeans, and canvas sneakers? I swear, every girl should have these garments. They just scream, “fashion with a purpose.”

Button-down shirt: Forever 21

Boyfriend jeans: Penshoppe

Canvas sneakers: Keds

Layered outfits are best when you cannot predict the temperature of the place you’re visiting. Dahilayan Adventure Park: the Park that is located in Bukidnon, a place that is known for its cold winds on sunny days weather. As a woman with an irrational fear of getting tanned by the heat of the sun (guilty as charged), i wore an outfit that could cover my arms and most of my face. Because i want my outfit to be fitting with the weather as possible, layered outfits are the safest. Fashion with function.

Twirls and Big Smiles

Vigan city~ a place that would surely reenergize you from an 8-hour long trip from Manila, especially if you’re a history/vintage junkie. Twirling is a must in Vigan, or at least smiles that can not be measured through how big you show them in front of the camera. Truly, Vigan city was a dream come true. What more to celebrate happiness with photographs and a good outfit? For this trip, i chose to wear something comfortable and fashionable at the same time because it was my first time in Vigan and i want to take good photos. Long skirts are always comfortable, in my opinion. I paired it up with a white turtleneck to make the outfit look elegant. I added a chunky necklace and a brown belt to prevent the ensemble from looking plain. I also wore sparkly brown shoes to finish it all off. Twirl around Calle Crisologo with this outfit and wear your biggest smile. For sure, you will have photos that are insta-worthy.

White turtleneck: Forever21

Skirt and necklace: Divisoria (super cheap!)

Shoes: People Are People

Aztec but not the Nahuatl-speaking kind

Aztec-printed dresses will never get old. I remember them being a fad when i was still a kolehiyala. Aztec prints were always made with vibrant colors. However, i prefer my
Aztec like how i prefer men: Sophisticated. Colored aztec prints are okay, but they scream naive and youthful to me. Lesser color involvement can let the print shine through, plus it looks more elegant. Add a bit of accessory, preferrably a simple necklace or bracelet, to retain the Aztec print’s spotlight.

#ffffff (White)

Who said anything about wedding gowns being worn only by brides and on wedding days? I have always been a fan of a white ensemble. Not only does the color make you look clean, but white can also create an elegant impression. This gown was actually rented (Really cheap!) while the rest of the ensemble was stylized by my mother.
